eBay Policy Changes – Enhanced Search to Boost Relevancy in Listings

eBay Policy Changes – Enhanced Search to Boost Relevancy in Listings
By Vickie Sayce

Did you ever wonder why your eBay auction listing wasn’t getting visitors? You may have a great item up there but let’s face it; until recently, eBay’s search relevancy wasn’t the best. Finding items that actually interested you was a crap shoot. The new changes put this down for good.

First, if you are using the Best Match feature and decide to edit the price or description of an item, you retain your recent sales figures. Until now, those sales figures would be re-set and you lost all relevancy up to that point. This helps sellers stay at optimal advantage competitively.

Next, eBay finally got the point that it takes traffic to sell. So they now added some traffic generation type adjustments to their fixed price auctions format. For instance, impressions now count towards your listing performance using a percentage formula. A listing with 5 sales in 50 impressions sores higher than one with 5 sales in 100 impressions.

NOTE: An impression is any search results page that has that item listed on it.

Also a major change is that multiple quantity and single item listings will receive this exposure under the new Best Match format. This means that even though these items typically do NOT gather historical sales stats, they WILL get the same exposure as all listings. More visibility = more sold items, plain and simple.

Many other factors have been added as well, like accuracy of titles and seller performance ratings. Relevant titles are will raise your score and seller performance will positively affect the status of top rated sellers. Sellers who do not meet the new requirements will be demoted in auction and fixed price listings.

Considerations in shipping costs will be figured in as well, so offering free freight is a great idea to increase the visibility and raise the performance score, especially for single item sellers. Another factor will be optimization by category where the most recent listings from the best sellers get the best exposure. Basically, the new system takes many different aspects into view, so there isn’t one magic potion.

eBay has also launched a new “visibility tool” for sellers to manage their listings, monitor impressions, check performance and determine what can be done to make the listing better. This is much like the PPC control board at Google’s AdWords site. A one stop analysis tool that allows sellers to quickly adjust listings and move inventory.

One important change is the one made to auction style listings with a Buy It Now option. After October 1, the Buy It Now price HAS to be at least 10% more than the starting price.

Features that have been mainstays are going away forever, folks, and here’s a list of them:

– Featured plus
– Highlighting
– Home page featured
– Border
– Gift services
– Pro Pack

All these are being made no longer available. In addition, “Featured First” will only be available to Top Rated sellers. These will NOT display under Best Match searches.

Product pages will appear to more buyers across the board.

All in all, eBay has made it more profitable than ever to sell on the site. Check them out personally for more details.

eBay Policy Changes – Rewards Sellers For Providing an Excellent Customer Experience

eBay Policy Changes – Rewards Sellers For Providing an Excellent Customer Experience
By Vickie Sayce

eBay is the world’s marketplace and is dedicated to the buyer experience there. Because membership is free at eBay, they have instituted a set of policies that help ensure a quality experience for buyers. But the policies have been recently updated and the changes benefit the sellers in a more positive way.

First , eBay uses a rating system called a DSR or detailed seller rating. This is calculated by buyers rating their experience in four areas:

1. Communication.

2. Accuracy of item description.

3. Shipping time.

4. Shipping and handling charges.

eBay has made a change from using an overall average of ratings to the amount of low reports (1s and 2s) instead. In addition, only transactions with buyers in the USA will count for US sellers. Also transactions and reports from returning US buyers will be used to reward sellers who continually provide excellent service.

This new way of looking at the DSRs benefits both sides. Sellers get a firsthand look at areas that need work and buyers can see exactly how many low scores you have received. As an added benefit, sellers with a top rating will receive discounts on fees, promotions on Fixed Price Listings, be able to purchase featured first and will have a badge prominently displayed on item pages.

Top rated sellers will qualify for these benefits if they meet the following criteria:

1. Have 100 transactions equaling $3000 or more over the last 12 months.

2. No more than .5% of those transactions receiving low DSRs of 1 or 2 on each of the four areas.

Even low volume sellers can be a top rated seller. These are sellers with less than 400 transactions per year. For these sellers, two DSRs of a 1 or 2 will be allowed prior to the .5% being instituted.

eBay has also revamped the time period at which the DSRs will be evaluated. Sellers with more than 400 transactions within a 90 day period will be evaluated every 3 months. All others will be evaluated every 12 months. This is based on a calendar month.

eBay has also made it easier to become a PowerSeller. The discount structure is tiered like this through April 2010.

- For sellers with a 4.9 or higher DSR, 20% discounts are applied.

- For sellers with a DSR of 4.8 receive 15% discounts.

- Sellers with a DSR of 4.6 receive 5% discounts.

These discounts will continue from now until April 2010, so current PowerSellers can continue to receive these discounts as long as the 30 day DSR level is kept up.

For PowerSellers, this means that you can receive the discounts for a full eight months while you acclimate yourself to the new system and adjust your selling practices to adhere to the new standards.

These changes have been made to empower the seller and, at the same time, benefit the buyer ion a mutually beneficial way. Sellers receive discounts and make more money while buyers can more readily assess the status of the sellers. Everybody wins in the long run.

Hot Wholesale Tips You Should Follow

I am a member of Salehoo and I highly
recommend it to anyone looking for dropshippers or wholesale
suppliers.  They take the risk and quess work out of the equation.

Below is an article written by Salehoo that you will find
informative.  To check them out again,

> Visit Site Here

1. Thorough market research is the foundation for success

Meticulous market research doubles your chances of making a tidy
profit from the wholesale goods you buy. Start off with a list of
5-10 different ideas. Then check completed listings searches on
eBay to see what the item generally sells for and the sell-through
rate for each one. Use Yahoo’s free keyword tool
http://inventory.overture.com to find out how many people are
searching Yahoo for your product per month. You can double this
figure for Google. Add the numbers together. If there are ten
thousand or more searches per month for an item, this indicates a
healthy market.

2. Calculate the REAL cost of your item

One big reason why people fail at the wholesale game is that they
don’t do the numbers. In other words, they don’t treat wholesale
like a real business. To accurately discover your true profit
potential on an item, you need to add the shipping cost and
insurance, eBay fees (or equivalent for other advertising), Paypal
and/or credit card fees (these can be a real profit killer),
packaging costs and labor involved packaging, and any storage costs
to the cost of your item.

3. Verify ALL suppliers found on the Internet

Getting caught out by scammers is a common stumbling block for
people new to wholesale. If you are searching for suppliers off
your own bat (rather than using a wholesale directory like
SaleHoo), it is CRITICAL to check authenticity before making a
purchase.

Always take the time to:

* Check that the website gives a full business name and a
registration number.
* Check for a legitimate contact telephone number – this will
involve ringing the number. Do not accept a mobile phone number
alone. All real companies should have a land line number.
* Go to http://www.whois.sc/ and search for the name of the
website. A legitimate company will have a domain expiration date in
several years time. Most legitimate companies reserve their domain
names for 3-5 years or more at a time.
* AVOID suppliers who won’t agree to use secure payment methods
such as Escrow.com, Credit Card and Paypal Verified.
* Still uncertain? Ask other sellers what their experiences
have been with the company you are interested in on eBay forums.

4. Chinese suppliers give the competitive edge

Chinese suppliers are an essential source for anyone wishing to
make money selling online. Manufacturing costs are currently
extremely low in China, thus it is the secret to gaining a
competitive edge. Dealing with China does have risks, but these can
be alleviated if you place a small order first, use secure payment
methods, get shipping insurance for 110% of the cost of the items,
and use suppliers with a good reputation.

5. A common stumbling block for liquidation and closeout

Always obtain the reasons for liquidation and closeout sales before
you buy. Liquidation and Closeout sales can be a fantastic source
for cheap products, but you usually have to buy by the pallet load
and these can sometimes include broken or returned goods that
aren’t in saleable condition. To be safe, ask specifically whether
broken items and returns are included before you buy.

6. Negotiate on shipping and save

Shipping economically is critical to importing success. Profits can
easily get swamped in shipping costs, so take time to get a good
deal on shipping. If possible, negotiate CIF (Cost, Insurance &
Freight) or DDP (Delivery, duty paid) shipping terms with your
supplier as this takes much of the risk – not to mention
organization – off your shoulders. FOB (Freight on Board) is the
most common shipping term, but don’t be afraid to negotiate for
better.

7. Drop shipping – can you really afford it?

Drop shipping sounds great in theory – someone taking care of
packaging, wrapping and postage – but it can be difficult to profit
from this method. Think about it, drop shipping can add another
$2-10 to your costs – sometimes even 10% of the cost of the item.
By the time you add in eBay fees and any other costs, you may find
it is not worth it.

8. Warehouse storage checklist

Asset management is the most important consideration when locating
warehousing to store your items. Believe it or not, items can go
missing while in storage, causing massive disruption for you. When
comparing warehouses, ask questions specifically on how you will
authorize the release of stock (by phone or fax?), what will happen
if you need to cancel an order, frequency of damage claims, dust
management, and whether there is an area you can use to photograph
items.

9. Powerseller wealth

It’s a fact – eBay powersellers are able to command higher prices
for their items than ordinary eBay sellers. To get the best profits
on your wholesale items, you need to aim to get and maintain
powerseller status.

10. Growth with a website and eBay store

The way to increase profits from wholesale is to build your own
website and/or open an eBay store. This allows you to cross sell
items plus it also makes it easier for people to find what they are
looking for. For example, if you sell shoes, then customers can
easily navigate to browse all black shoes in size 9 and so on.
Always include a sentence at the bottom of your descriptions
encouraging visitors to check out your other listings – most people
will.

If you are looking for genuine and trusted wholesale suppliers then
look no further than SaleHoo! SaleHoo’s directory contains over
4000 drop ship, wholesale and closeout suppliers that are
